Cesare Magrini began his apprenticeship in the mid-seventies under his uncle, Primo Contavalla, son of Luigi, who were both violin makers in Imola, Italy. Cesare Magrini’s work is inspired by the great classic Italian makers, more specifically by the masters of the Bolognese and Emiliani schools such as Pollastri, Fiorini or Poggi. This violin specifically is a copy of a violin made in 1928 by Ansaldo Poggi one of the greatest modern Italian violin makers of the 20th century. This violin is no exception to Magrini’s masterful work. This instrument has a handsome deep brown varnish with a beautifully flamed one-piece back. Thisviolin produces a full and rich timbre of sound on the lower register and a sweet and clear timbre in the upper register. It is branded above the button and on the inside “C. Magrini.” This is a wonderful instrument that would satisfy any need, professionally.
