Mathias Hornsteiner modeled his violins based on a blended Amati-Stradivari outline.
Mathias Hornsteiner (b. 1760, d. 1808) hailed from a large family of violin makers in Mittenwald, Germany in the 18th and 19th centuries. Nicknamed “Dax,” Mathias emerged as the most celebrated and accomplished member of the family with his elegant workmanship and finely textured tonal qualities characteristic of his violins and violas.
Playing this violin is truly a historic experience and will transport the player to Baroque period with the sound and feel of the violin. The sound is warm, rich, and intimate. The violin responds with ease and flexibility across the strings and at varying dynamics. The high arching and dark red-brown over gold varnish will visually enhance playing this fine violin.
The professional or passionate violinist will want to perform and delight in playing Baroque music on this exceptional violin.
