Daniel Arlig is a true master luthier.  Arlig received his training from the highly regarded North Bennet Street School.  His accomplishments include membership in the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers and a 2012 Honorable Mention in the Art of Sound violin making competition.  Moreover, Arlig is an accomplished performing musician beginning as a young violist and later earning a degree in double bass performance from the New England Conservatory.  As both a maker and musician, Arlig has a unique insight into what string players desire from an instrument.

The 2023 viola is smaller at 15 ¾” and is a superb continuation of Arlig’s work.  He utilizes traditional methods to create a viola exceeding contemporary demands.  The viola is inspired by the models of Amati and the great Brescian masters, da Salo and Maggini.  The eye will be drawn to the double purfling, the rich medium orange brown varnish, and a one-piece back with a smattering of bird’s eyes and intriguing flaming.
