Adam J.H. Kology (b. 1983) grew up in Rhode Island. After earning a BFA (2007) in sculpting, printmaking, and painting, he found himself in Woodstock, New York. Once there, Kology developed a passion for folk music, woodworking, and, serendipitously, a love for the violin. In 2012, he transitioned to Boston and began his career as a luthier. His inquisitive and artistic nature opened a new life chapter when Kology moved to Hudson Valley and opened his home workshop where he builds new instruments and does restoration work. He is a member of the VSA and the BVMA.
Quotes Kology: “I make violin family instruments using classical designs. I love working with a large stable of models and inspirations, combining their elements in collaboration with musicians to conceive and construct instruments unique in form and sound.”
The 2020 violin is a fine example of the Kology mission. The violin is skillfully made and beautiful with a dark red over gold finish. Tonally, the violin is clear, balanced, responsive, precise, and subtly sweet. The Kology will be a wonderful companion for the zealous, advancing violinist. You will cherish growing with the violin in orchestral, chamber music, and solo performance pursuits.
