Celestin Emile Clasquin (b. 1875, d. 1928) was the son of Mirecourt violin maker F.E. Clasquin. C.E. Clasquin served his apprenticeship with C.N. Bazin, one of the fine Mirecourt archetier firms. In 1901 – 1906, his name is listed as a worker at the shop of Thibouville-Lamy where his bow making style adhered to the requirements of his employer which were based on the Voirin-Lamy models.
He was mobilized during WWI, from 1914-1918. Upon the cessation of hostilities, Clasquin established his own shop in Paris in 1918. His bow making style emulated that of Emile Ouchard. He had limited production. However, he gifted violinists with beautiful bows that are highly appreciated today.
This bow has a certificate of authenticity by Pierre Guillaume. It is stamped with “C. CLASQUIN PARIS” and is quite fetching to the eye with a medium brown color and a tinsel grip. Aficionados of French bows will delight in the precise, fully developed, and radiant clarity issued by this Clasquin. The bow is sensitive, nimble, and will deliver an out-of-this world sautille and spiccato performance! Ardent players and collectors will want to take note of this bow.
