Dom Nicolò Amati (b. 1662, d.1752 Bologna Italy) was the pseudonym of Nicola Marchioni, a priest and associate in Bologna of the Tononi family. He entered the priesthood in 1687 and pursued violinmaking simultaneously. Though not a member of the Amati family himself, it is thought that he used the Amati name on his labels as an homage to the most influential violinmaking family of the time. His instruments are known for their fine richly textured varnish, scrolls that are distinctive and of smaller form, and an improvised and sophisticated mode of f-hole placement. The violin has a gorgeous sonorous voice that is sure to please both the professional player and audience members alike. Certificate issued by Kenneth Warren & Son.
