John Day (1830 – 1905), pupil of Charles Auguste de Bériot, was a multi-talented maker. He originally was a violin soloist with a variety of orchestras–including the London Philharmonic–while knowing how to play the organ as well. Violin-making was his side career. His workmanship is of great quality. His instruments are beautifully made and show off the gorgeous wood through the varnish.
This highly responsive violin is of a slightly smaller stature–perfect for anyone looking for a more comfortable size. Its tone quality is slightly darker, and beautifully clean and clear. This violin would be perfect for a professional player.
