Born in 1929 in Klingenthal, Germany, K. Lothar Meisel was a 9th generation violinmaker from the famed Meisel family. He began studying his craft in Germany after WWII, was later employed by Scherl and Roth in the United States and is best known for his work that came out of his own shop after settling in Owatonna, Minnesota. This violin from 1966 is an example of extraordinary craftsmanship that could only come from the accumulation of generations of passed-down knowledge. It is extremely sonorous and would please a serious player or professional with its depth, quickness of response, and dynamic range.
