Riccardo Bergonzi (b. 1961, Cremona, Italy) began his vocation as a violin maker when he made his first violin at Stefano Conia’s workshop as a 12-year-old! Bergonzi trained at the International School of Violin Making in Cremona in the 1970’s, graduated top of his class in 1979, and was decorated with the school’s G. Marola Award. His training was enriched by being surrounded by some of the greatest Italian luthiers—Francesco Bisoletti, Giorgio Scolari, and Giobattista Morassi. Shortly after graduation, he taught at his alma mater for 10 years and continued to receive awards for his instruments. Along with his activity as a violin maker, Bergonzi is also a painter and sculptor, working with wood and bronze. With his passion for art and violinmaking, Bergonzi is on a life-long journey to seek the spirit of the great Italian makers throughout the ages and make it live again through his work. You will discover the fruits of his quest in the violin being offered! Importantly, the violin is paired with Riccardo Bergonzi’s certificate.
If you love Cremonese sound, beauty, and craftsmanship, please visit and play the Bergonzi! This elegant violin has an exciting, opulent, and radiant sound palette easily accessed from the bow stroke. You will be drenched with fabulous tone color and an equilibrated, focused response from the Bergonzi. Players will be elated with the Bergonzi for playing the concertos you dream about, the auditions you will win, and a lifetime of treasured musical moments. Special note: if you are a smaller player and want an easily played full size violin, the Bergonzi will be of great interest!
